Nah, we don't. The road infrastructure for cyclist is terrible in this country. Maybe if you commuted by bike you'd actually understand this.

Lol , Bikers have sod all infrastructure , outside of 'the pale' at least.
Haphazard paths , no joined up thinking , even within small areas. Cyclists get a raw deal , and copious, needless abuse.

The public outcry is against the fact that cyclists do not pay road taxes..

I have commuted by bicycle and found the Irish road structures, marking, lighting in general to be entirely satisfactory.

I have also found that many Irish cyclists are entirely self centred , do not care about other road users and are generally prepared to use violence and intimidation.

There is a widespread public outcry about the general misconduct of cyclists on Irish roads.

This is leading to a demand from the general public that these cycling road users start to pay their way instead of freeloading.

There is no public outcry- it is only yourself moaning.
There is no road tax in Ireland.Only motor tax.
There are no highways in Ireland. We call them motorways.
Nobody is allowed to cycle on a motorway in Ireland. But everybody is allowed to cycle on a highway in the States.
Considering your lack of basic regulations in Ireland and your wording I came to the conclusion that you are over in the States...and trolling from across the Ocean ? !

I dunno about that. And if there is , there is little justification for such an outcry.
The stats are crystal clear, cyclists are highly vulnerable and more likely than most to come to a bad end on the 'shared spaces', that are our roads.
