The Irish sea is not deep other than a few deep chanels. A causeway of 30m wide would accomodate a road link and rail link islands could be constructed on shallow areas, bridges over deep areas or tunels.

The New link between sweeden to denmark 46km cost €2000,000,000 The Islands created would be an ideal place to locate wave power plants and windfarms which could provide enough eco electricity and fuel to make a positive carbon gain from the process

We already have a causeway over 1.6km from the south wall bublin port

It is possible. The company who built the tunnel/bridge from Copehagen to Malmo approached the Irish government with a plan for a pre-fab, sea floor tunnel from Dublin to Holyhead. It would cost 20 billion.

The gov rightly decided we had other priorities.

This idea that aircraft are polluting is false. Aircraft use less fuel per person than cars. The environment would be better off if we flew more and drove less.

The Irish sea is shallow - for a sea. But it is still 100m deep.

The tunnel would provide for train travel which is much less polluting than air.

Look at the real estate possibilities it would be self financing. we could have an off shore comercial center casinos on island in a shallow part of the irish sea it would not cost a lot less than 20 billion net mind you ryan air or the ferry companies would not like the idea

If you can raise money on a flotation to transport people by air why not by land which does not require the miracle of flight

Only if its electric rail - which Ireland doesn't have - we, almost alone in Europe, use Diesel. If you want to reduce transport polution there are a lot of low hanging fruit you could try before building a tunnel to the UK.

Commutting emits vastly more CO2 than the flights out of Dublin Airport, and for the price of the tunnel, we could have 20 more Luas or Metro lines in Dublin.

No, we don't need it. Its a silly idea, plus, if london was on the west coast of the UK, then maybe a Dublin London link would be a decent idea, but it would still cost an unreasonable amount.
Ireland is free for another day.
