Easier driving test for rural people: Looney Greens

Mary White (Deputy Leader of the Green Party) has called for a new restricted driving licence for people in rural Ireland, which would allow them to drive, without having to do the current driving test (its too hard apparently).
What next, a higher alcohol limit for rural people?
Abolish the NCT for rural people (because the garage is far away)?

This sort of thing doesn't do the Greens any good.

Was funny, the law applies to all uniformly - you cant make one set of rules for people in urban areas and another for rural... as long as they stay in their catchment area.. indeed.

The current driving test is not that complicated, and if people fail it they should simply go out, take more lessons and do it again, and again and again if needs be. The funniest thing was 'now that Noel Dempsey is demanding that people are compliant with their licences...' well duh!!!! whats the point is ahving a licence if its just ignored.

    Time to stop making excuses.

Ned O'Keefe had a similar proposal, did he not, for drink driving?

Re: Easier driving test for rural people: Looney Greens

Oh dear, oh dear. That is an embarassingly bad proposal.

How would it be enforced, for a start? How would "rural" areas be defined? How would a garda charged with enforcing the law judge the "locality" of the driver?

And, when there is a need to reduce road fatalies and injuries, why would anyone with sense propose reducing the requirements for some citizens to drive?

    My GOD!

We should be expanding the driving test not reducing it.

    And Mary please read

267 people died in so called rural areas in 2005.

Yes, an equally idiotic anti-sense proposal to have higher drink-driving limits in rural area, because we all know that rural drivers can handle a few more pints and don't need to be as qualified as the rest of us!

Seriously, these types of prosposals aren't meant to be taken seriously, but just to try and secure the rural vote next time around, right?

    She's the Deputy leader.

If Richard Bruton or Brian Cowen came out with this, it would be taken seriously.
I think we do have to take it seriously as a proposal from the Greens.

Unless, what you are saying is correct and they have become GOMBEENS!! *shock*

I have to say that Marys proposal makes a lot of sense. She is talking about restricted driving between 10 am and 5pm for elderly people to allow them collect their pensions , shop , go to mass etc.

I suppose nobody gets killed or kills on the way to collect their pensions , shop , go to mass etc.

Really, this is another nonsensical idea from a nutjob party.
