How much of a danger are old folks on the road?
And how much of a danger is Gay Byrne, seeing as his ineptness this week most likrly translates into ineptness on the road?

Should full license holders put up L plates to protest?

(But I doubt this line at least outside of Dublin. What's the use of protesting to Gardai who did not htink up this measure and are, in fact, likely to sabotage it somewhat?)

Hopefully traffic will be eased as a result of this decision.

Why not blockade roads in the way that lorry drivers do?

I'd imagine nearly half of the fully licensed drivers in the country have L plates up most of the time anyway, as they are having their cars used by members of their families for the purposes of helping them learn to drive

As for an online petition.. forget about it.. no-one cares about them. This is fort the streets

I would suggest that P.ie can take a lead on this if necessary. I will certainly be talking to people over the weekend with a view to organising protests on the street about this measure, and perhaps other people who view P.ie can pass on details through their mail systems at home/work or school

I know the arguments for this proposal but you simply cannot change an accepted practice at such short notice and expect life to carry on regardless. People need their cars for work, school etc and at the very least need a decent lenght of lead in time to arrange a change in circumstances.

For the love of God, when the smoking ban was implemented, people were given a number of months.... And now the Government expects a change in mode and means of transport for up to a millin people (because the fully drivers who may have to accompany provisional holders are now affected as well), over a weekend ?

    Absolutely ridiculous
1,197 people agree with me.. how many agree with you ?

Whats his expertise or qualifications for road safety?

Oops, that's right. Could we develop a modified L-plate with "protest" on it? Or would this break some law?

While I confess upfront to not liking SF (yes, "for the past"), I would join a legal street protest anyway. I'll be watching this space. I can drive to Cashel if necessary, though Limerick might be a larger and therefore better place to protest. (I can't drive to Dublin on a work day).

Edit. On a less serious note, I just remembered that your party was known as "Provisional" SF - new meaning to an old name?

Doesn't he have an extensive collection of over powered motor bikes.

I remember a particularly nauseating Late Late where bono gave him a Harley

    protest new learner driver rules

This is ridiculous. I have to travel to college and am on the waiting list for my driving test.Maybe they should have put a better system in place before they introduced this.We all dont have drivers on hand to ferry us around.
What about all the apprentices starting out who need their cars to earn a living.I Doubt Bertie will care as he gives himself yet another pay rise.
I have never caused an accident but have been hit by two full licensed drivers but yet we are targeted.
Just another way Bertie has isolated the young people. Hope we all get sense and finally vote out FF 2009

I say drive to the protest, even if it means being stopped and fined, and then refuse to pay the fine.. all the way to court

Lets see how the Government reacts when hundreds of thousands of generally law abiding voters are being threathened with jail, for being unable to get to work/school etc

The next question that should be asked, is was this measured implemented yesterday, to take public attention off the massive pay rises

that the Government awarded themselves ?

and drive uninsured to the tax office...How responsible of you,
what if you cause an accident on the way........you going to stick the damage on your credit card ??
