Having to pay for toilets in Heuston

The author of this thread clearly needs not just to travel in Ireland more but also take a trip to mainland Europe. It's a common practice in France and Belgium to charge for the use toilets. In Belgium, the woman (it's usually a woman) at the door collecting the money is affectionately called Mme Peepee. Don't you just love the Continentals?

Pretty normal in Germany too, and the upside is that toilets tend to be way way cleaner than back home.

Everything in Germany is cleaner than at home.

Altough I dislike it, charging is okay if the toilets are properly cleaned and maintained.
That, of course, would require minimum standards of hygiene and facilites (i.e. soap and hot water!).

What we need is a National Toilet Regulator to set standards.

Well that isnt working. Last time I was there there was a pimp in the ladies loo with two of his workers. All three were Eastern European. He just looked threateningly at everyone who came in and continued with mobile phone discussion. The two women with him looked exhausted and frightened.
