Where did you think the term "spend a penny" came from?
A penny, I could live with. I could find better uses for €2.

Being a youngster, I wouldn't have heard such archaic language much anyway.
Its 30c, which with inflation, is less than a penny used to be.

A British penny in 1900 bought as much as 50c today. http://snipurl.com/1s2zs

Cleaning and maintaining the toilets costs money.
The last time I was there they didn't look clean or maintained. Rip off.

It's meant to deter drug users and sexual deviants congregating apparently!
Sure in that case - just lock them for about half an hour when the Cork train comes in.

This is a disgrace. Most old people are always on the toilet. Charlie Haughey brought in free travel for ould wans and irish rail is re-introducing stealth charges.

People have paid to use the jacks in Europe for years. Ask your average German what they think of it and they will probably say something like, "What? You mean you don't pay already?".

You, know - thats a good point. I'd bet they'd have a case to make to get free old-kodger toilet access.

It's not a good point. If they have access to free train travel, just use the toilets on the bloody trains!

I'm going to change the title of this thread as it has virtually nothing to do with the substantive issue. Please be more accurate in your titling people!
