Simple! There will always be some eejit out there who will go in to buy fuel instead of driving past and going elsewhere.

people who run out of petrol in town... people with statoil company cars. That station and one on the drumconda road have always been daylight robbery. Just don't purchase there.

It’s called the free market. You don’t have to buy there, you are free to go elsewhere; but God help you if you run out of fuel in town!! Twenty years ago when this service station first opened it was a cheap place to top up, but that was before all the stations close to it sold up and became blocks of flats.

I remember a discussion about this on The Last Word, and one contributor (can't remember his name) alleged that that particular station have a deal with taxi drivers in the city. It basically worked out that Joe Soap going in to buy petrol would be charged the price advertised, but taxi companies would get a discount. The idea being that it would be mainly taxi drivers using the service station, and so wouldn't be stuck waiting behind any Sunday drivers.

I haven't seen taxis using it mind, and they would be price aware.

Well not to go one better but... supposedly the Gardai have a contract with this particular petrol station to fuel them, going up to Phoenix Park and that. If this is true its a complete disgrace and a waste of taxpayers money.
