Yep, agree with that, Dawson street too,

I used to drive a truck around Dublin and the one group of motorists who I liked was taxi drivers, cos 99% of them drove sensibly, safely and didn't make erratic manoeuvres, which is helpful when driving a truck in the city centre!

Now I find taxis to be the most inconsiderate and dangerous users of dublins roads, and my like for them has turned to resentment!

Why are market forces not reducing the numbers, they are like a plague of locusts in Dublin, choking up the streets and kerb crawling for fares!

And the newest one is being stalked by taxis, how things have changed!
The country is run by utterly out of their depth overpaid imbeciles and there's no better in your face example of this then the anarchy they have made of the taxi business.

Why should it make a difference? But to be fair you're only asking a question an awful lot of people who use this site would like to ask. Within the taxi industry there is this trend to pointing the finger of all the problems in the industry on the "Black lads". Taxi men of African origin get tarred with the label of Nigerian scam artists. There is of course more than just Nigerians living in Dublin. Of course all Irish born taxi drivers are saints and would never do anything illegal.

The reason we have such a high proportion of African born taxi men is simply because the only way someone can work whilst their immigration/refugee status is being processed is to be self employed. These guys are getting their backsides off the couch, jumping through every hoop everyone else does to get a taxi on the road. Any taxi driver will tell you its not easy. Like every other taxi driver they have to file a tax return and pay their way. They are probably less likely to do anything illegal for fear of having their immigration application revoked.

I'd imagine the problem with illegal taxis is lads borrowing their mates old cars and roof signs to make a few quid the weekend.

They are not necessarily illegal. They wouldn't be able to get a PPS no. PSV licence or insurance if they were. Many are just stuck in the doldrums of a slow buerocracy and legal system that can't tell them weather they can stay or have to go.
If there was an option for them to take paid employment whilst their cases were pending I'm sure they would.

Yeah, I used to enjoy driving into town on a Saturday night for dinner etc. However the fun has evaporated in the past 3 years with the sheer volume of taxi's. George's street in particular is a disaster for them.

I know this is a selfish comment, but sure that's how it has affected me!

Interesting on the number of illegal taxi's these days. I hear they are looking to regulate again, and impose restrictions on drivers with criminal convictions. All sounds good, but lets not forget the bad old days of late 90's and early 00's when you would be waiting on college green for 2 hours on a cold winters night!

the Government needs to tread carefully!
