Because its normal to ask a taxi driver his or her nationality? You'd be rightly told to ************************ off and mind your own business.
It is nonsense to say that Germans are unable to change. Merkel

There are ways of asking - for example, "Where are you from originally"? This question can be asked of any driver, male or female, Irish and non-Irish, it is a good way to start and conversation and very often enable driver and passenger to establish common ground. Such as from the same locality, know somebody from the same locality, shared interest in sports, music, theatre, etc.

It's beyond me too. I have experienced foreign taxi drivers in Dublin who could barely understand English, let alone being able to find where I asked them to go without detailed instructions like "next left", "next right" etc. I find it hard to believe that these people have actually passed a test to demonstrate their familiarity with the city. Either all these people were unlicensed, or there is something very peculiar about the way they were tested.

Do you, or others know if a "renter" of a plate needs to have passed the knowledge test? I'm having a guess here that it is just the license holder, but I may be wrong about that.

Yes, you are wrong. Anyone legally working as a taxi driver is legally obliged to have passed the same test, although you'd be forgiven for thinking otherwise with some drivers.

Each like on that post is a feather in my cap, I rest assured in the knowledge I have ruffled the feathers of the turkeys who have had a free reign for too long.

Of course so called Non-nationals should stay in their own countries and go hungary there. Isn't that what you're saying?

Did you come up with an answer as to how to ascertain a Taxi-driver's or anyone elses nationality? Clearly not.
Not at all, bring them all over to Erin's green isle and we'll all go hungry together!! Why did you choose to ignore the insurance issue? Am I to take it that you think it's acceptable to drive a taxi uninsured?
