    Hauliers to Shut Down Dublin

Hauliers from across the country have vote to bring Dublin to a standstill in protest of the austerity measures imposed. The hauliers have been soliciting the government for months on the issue of the cost of fuel and it has not improved and in fact worsened.

Hopefully they pick a good day for it.

A meeting in Donegal Town of the Donegal, Sligo & Leitrim branch of the Irish Road Haulage Association has voted unanimously to join a national protest on the streets of the capital in the coming weeks.

The news follows similar votes held earlier this week in Cork, Galway, Roscommon, Mayo and Limerick earlier in the week, and further votes are expected over the coming week.

“We want everyone to get out on the streets, and say plainly to our government, that ‘enough is enough’ and we will not take any more disproportionate cuts. Everyone accepts that the deficit has to be dealt with, but when we are paying bondholders, and letting the wealthy off the hook at every turnaround, it is no wonder that we are where we are. Other ways have to be explored, the hauliers have shown this, and this protest should be one that the government will not forget in a hurry.”

Good for them! Our gombeen politicians are unable to realise that adding more and more taxes to diesel and HGV road taxes increases the cost of goods in the shops! Perhaps this will wake them up a bit. Round and round past Leinster House would be good.

Dublin, Europe's most supportive tourist destination for Peados, thanks to no electronic passport swipe in Dublin Airport. Ireland always facilitates child molestors.

Maybe this is the start...might be a good rallying point for a mass protest against the bailout.

    Cue the insider sock puppets.....

If they are tackling the price of fuel, then I am all for it. The increases in carbon taxes and VAT on fuel is having a seriously negative effect on peoples pockets and therefore the wider economy.

Will this lead to a reduction in fuel costs for everyone or just for truckers? Last I checked, everyone was suffering as it is making going to work very expensive.

So people who voted - what - 74% for austerity when you add FF+FG+Lab+GP? - are going to endure a day of being held hostage by truckers who can't accept the democratic will of the people.

A minority seeking to impose its will through coercion.

Not that it will matter to politicians who make the decisions, they will plan around it. No, it'll only affect the poor ordinary sod on the street of Dublin who is trying to go about her business in a normal way.

It hits us all directly. The cost of transportation of good is a factor in the prices of most of the goods we purchase. Also this is a protest about this government and their disgraceful record of protecting the feudal elite while punishing everyone else.
