Ireland's Rip Off Motor Tax Rates!

Even using CO2 emissions our rates are a real rip off compared to the UK. An example is a BMW X5 with emissions of 229 g/km. To tax the above vehicle for 12 months in the UK is £445.00 (€533.71). The same here based on CO2 emissions is €2258!! Based on engine size the rate here is €1390!! Please post your own examples.

i've said before, we need a political/lobby group to campaign on behalf of motorists big time. Almost a union if you will. Because motorists are being raped in this country.

Don't forget that the system is also set up to be inherently inequitable. Example: Drive a 1.9 Diesel 2006 reg car and pay €660 in road tax. However if you drive the exact same car with a 2008 reg and the tax is half that.

So you see the system is such that it penalizes the person who can not afford to buy a car that is registered from 2008 onwards. This holds for the vast majority of engine sizes.

There is a big rip off of those who pay by installment like every 3 months you pay 13% extra for some bands.

How do overall motor costs compare with Denmark, Holland, Japan?
Picking one country and asking people to list examples is hardly worth another thread.

Even though you could use the emissions rating from the NCT to band the car under the new tax rates... if this wasn't designed as a stimulus to the motor industry at the expense of the citizens of this country.

We have by far the world's highest motor tax. Some countries like the US are in the double digits, Switzerland uses an annual toll system which is in the double digits as well.

This country is a feudal kleptocratic kip.

I unfortunately drive the above and had to put €125 to fill it from not quite empty. With the new emissions tax etc I could not give the thing away. Nearly blew a tyre yesterday hitting a pothole, so wherever the revenue goes the bulk of it does not go to roads.
