Lets hope the greens do something about the white lines in the middle of the road. A friend came off her motorcycle due to slippage on these dreadful lines.

Yea I find the double yellows very slippy under my bicycle wheels.Originally Posted by Anne Marie

What do you think handlebars are for?
A poster of some consequence...
Never mind that things like traffic light poles are put in the middle of the ones that are up on pavements.
We really don't know how to create cycle lanes...

A cycle lane was provided on a new stretch of road near me recently. Unfortunately it ends up running straight into a ditch on both ends as it meets the old road. I have yet to see anyone cycling on it. But the County Council will still figure it into their '*metres of Cycle lanes provided for' statistic...

Heavy words are so lightly thrown.
If they were solid : fairly certain your friend oughtn't have been driving on the white lines.Originally Posted by Anne Marie
If they were dashed: your friend oughta gone between them.
White lines do more good than harm.

Say the average dashed white line is 1metre and then there is a 1 metre gap between it and the next. If you are overtaking, how do you propose that you cross said lines without your wheel touching them? Travelling at 50km/h this would be some task given that you are travelling at 13 metres per second. It would be some task to cross such dashed lines in between them.Originally Posted by cyberianpan

Well we don't have '000's of motor bike folk slaughtered every week so I imagine some accomplish this - but yes in regard of a motor bike crossing a road at speed white lines are a danger - overall they are a good.

What was your friend doing in the MIDDLE of the road? Those markings are to keep you on the left side.
