Speed Camera Van promoters are Liars!

Earlier on the usual lies were peddaled about the joke stealth tax raising speed camera vans, some idiots liked to promote them as "safey vans" "Assistant Garda Commissioner John Twomey pointed out that between November 16 and December 14, eight people were killed on Irish roads, compared to 27 over the same period last year. "

Of course there was a reduction not due to the stealth tax van but it was because of less traffic due to the worst snow in many years, other idiots also claimed that there was a reduction in road fatalities due to these revenue only raising Cash Vans

Now that road fatalites have increased dramatically due to the inept and unprofessional traffic policing is it not about time that the Cash Vans were scrapped as they are useless except for raising stealth tax revenue

There has been a high increase in road-related fatalities this year compared with last year. The deployment of private speed cameras to raise stealth taxes has done bugger all for road safety.

Instead of hearing the usual lies from the usual idiots (being abject liars, expect the same crooks and their cronies to suggest increased fines to increase safety), at the least it must be insisted that the cameras be located in the correct areas, and we need to publically know how many revenue raising tickets are being artificially generated for raising stealth tax and and at what times and place are the alledged offences occurring?

The vans should at the very least be located at known accident sites rather than at the behest of the unprofessional Gardai who have clearly demonstrated their ongoing ineptitude for reducing fatalities

How many lives have they saved so far? This of course they cant say, ask them how much money they gathered so far, and you'll get an exact cher ching............lots and lots of euro's. Poxbottle thieving scumbags. Using the deaths of innocent civilians to cash in. I hope every last one of them is burned to hell where they belong.

They aren't about reducing fatalities they're about raising revenue. Just where do you think you're living? Blaming the camera companies is stupid, blame the State. I see the self styled soldiers of Ireland nearly burned a man to death down near Arklow setting one of these vans on fire there last week. It's not the fault of the speed cameras, the problem is the way they're used.

If they really wanted to bring down road fatalities they'd make cars that break the speed limit illegal like they made guns and explosives illegal. They won't do that though because they're owned by the very motor industry that relies on selling speed to excitable apes. Once you could pretty much only go as fast as a pony and trap, nobody complained about it.

How can any politician stand behind this blatant ripoff? Why oh why couldnt they have stuck fixed camera's at all these locations? Objective would be achieved...no sneakiness, no bullshi.t, no lies. To think that the powers that be actually want you to speed, to play this game of death of cat and mouse is truly disgusting.
The chosen locations where people died, are not all speed locations. The camera may be there today maybe not. It could be half a mile further up or down the road. This says you may speed if we're not there. It is destined for failure.

The number of people killed and injured has dropped off considerably in recent years through better education engineering and enforcement.

People who speed do so to get a thrill, a natural high through the release of adrenaline.

It unfortunately kills people as a side effect.

Of course it's all about revenue. one would have to be an imbecile to think otherwise.
You can find a list of speedtrap locations here and add your own if you know of any that aren't featured:
Speed cameras in Ireland. Safety Camera Alerts on iPhone and Garmin Sat Nav. Over 1000 Garda and GoSafe speed camera locations in Ireland.

The number of deaths on the roads are mere statistic's. They will fall and rise with or without intervention. You are missing the point. We all want safer roads. Having people pretend they care while cashing in on it is the issue. We all know speeding can be dangerous, thats not the argument. These people who try catch speeding drivers, do so to get a thrill, a natural high through the release of adrenaline. It fortunately fills their pockets as a side effect.

The main reason for the reduction in road deaths has been the construction of motorways, which are intrinsically safer, albeit faster.

It is too soon to judge the effectiveness of the Speed Cameras - the country has been crying out for speed cameras for years, now we have them. A temporary spike in road fatalities means nothing. It will take another year or two to accumulate enough data to guage effectiveness of the program. In the meantime, posts like this are just pointless froth.

Who is "the country"? The RSA? Dept of Finance?

What the country is "crying out for" is... better roads for all the money motorists pump into the system, proper policing (because it is dangerous driving COMBINED with speed that is the big killer), politicians with a bit of fookin bottle.
    Answer this one question (anyone)..
why not have fixed camera's at all known accident blackspots?
It would eliminate speeding on said roads....
They wont do this because they wont make money..
    How wrong is that?
