Cameras to target dangerous overtaking, the worst offense on Irish roads
Dangerous overtaking,an old Irish custom, is a major causes of road deaths.Lack of roads policing for generations is to blame, because this was common 50 years ago or more.
On intercity roads, arrogant drivers overtake dangerously at high speed near bends and hilltops and overtake several cars at once in a continuous stream of traffic.
There ought to be a simple technical solution to dangerous overtaking. Speed cameras reprogrammed for the task or specially programmed cameras could photograph car licence plates of cars illegally present in the overtaking lane beside a solid white line. The cameras could also target cars overtaking too close to bends and hilltops, with paint marks put on the road to delineate the dangerous overtaking zone.
The cameras would need to recognise situations where cars parked illegally or moving very slowly near continuous white lines were obstructing traffic, forcing overtaking traffic in the left lane to cross the white line.
Is there any inventors and entrepeneur out there who will roll out this dangerous overtaking camera globally and presumably make millions?
