    BRT system for Dublin

The above map is of a proposed Bus Rapid Transit system for Dublin, although some elements of Transport 21 are included, luas extensions and interconnector etc. It was part of an NCAD student's masters degree project.

I don't know what the student studied, certainly not transport engineering.
Re: the above map I would offer a handful of constructive criticisms:

Ther luas lines are still not connected in it, there is far too much duplication of bus lines, there is no metro, there is still no luas for north side suburbs.
Also it is not clear what form the BRT would take and how it would differ from the current system of bus lanes. Also they all avoid O'Connell st and College Green like the plague.

In my opinion, for BRT to be a success, the bus lanes that are designated as QBC along the above proposed routes should be moved to the centre of the road, therefore avoiding delays by cars attampting left turning movements. Also it would require traffic light priority for buses, real time displays at stops etc. Also it should be grade seperated where possible at major junctions and 3 tunneled sections in the city centre as shown above.

Obviously not all the above proposed routes can be implemented in a way that would leave them all completely seperate from road traffic. Some of them must share with private cars.

Here's a city centre map, also showing regular bus routes:

also the routes are cutely named after famouse Dublin writers, what are people's thoughts?

Jesus, anyway to shrink that down to fit the screen?

Looks all nice, professional and easy to figure out but is not worth a toss without integrated ticketing. It maybe doesn't go far enough to get the buses out of the city centre. Maybe we should be looking at relocating 80% of bus terminus' outside the city centre to places like Clontarf, Drumcondra, Boombridge, Kilmanham (Places near regular Dart and Luas, Metro and Commuter lines) for transfer to the city center. That way with less bus traffic in town Luas capacity can be increased. Dart underground should go ahead so as to doubling the Dart capacity and buses can go to Metro stations. Everything will move a lot quicker and there will be less air pollution in the city.

all the proposed BRT lines in the above map terminated outside the city centre, I'd imagine that if/when they are ever built, that it will result in the cancellations of almost half of Dublin buses current routes. For example why would you bother getting a 41 from Swords to the city centre when you can get the ulysees line, or the guliver line?
