    All-Ireland free travel scheme begins

The island-wide free travel scheme for senior citizens from Northern Ireland and the Republic began this morning. Under the scheme, those aged 66 and over and who are resident in the Republic of Ireland will be able to travel free on all bus and rail services in Northern Ireland.

Likewise, all those aged 65 and over in Northern Ireland will travel free on bus, rail, air and ferry services participating in the Free Travel scheme in the Republic.

Wonderful, although it should be means tested.

Why? It would cost as much to means test it as it is just to give it to all pensioners.

Brilliant !!! Wonder how much publicity it will get on BBC Newsline.

Why in the name of God should it be means-tested? We don't means test bus passes now do we?
Those who think they know it all upset those of us that do.........

A great idea to keep the elderly active and to see some of the wonderful parts of ireland that they normally could not afford to see.
