    excellent news
As far as I am concerned the more routes we have the better.
We need more routes into mainland Europe as well as Russia and other CIS states.
I would also like to see direct flights to S.E. Asia
    Basically the more the better

Or does T2 have a transit area?
The list of countries requiring a transit visa for Ireland is surprisingly small:

    SCHEDULE 2

TRANSIT VISAS ARE REQUIRED BY CITIZENS OF THE FOLLOWING:

    AFGHANISTAN
    ALBANIA
    CUBA
    DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO
    ERITREA
    ETHIOPIA
    GHANA
    IRAN
    IRAQ
    LEBANON
    MOLDOVA
    MONTENEGRO
    NIGERIA
    SERBIA
    SOMALIA
    SRI LANKA
    ZIMBABWE
And given that Dublin Airport doesn't have a transit route, you may begin to see why our immigration system is not fit for purpose; they attempt to overcome the system failures by being arses to everyone who applies for a visa.
Unenthusiastic about any of the buggers.

Am I correct that no-one can physically transit through ireland because there are no transit zones in any of our airports? You have to pass passport control, right?

They must be building it into T2. Shannon has a transit area as well.

Without showing a passport? Where where you coming from and where where you going to?

I've heard that they even ask passports from people arriving from Cork.

Those People's Republic of Cork passports are not recognised in Dublin, or internationally for that matter.

    Great news.

The DAA should pull out all the stops on this, and Mary Coughlan should be sent on holiday until the deal is done.
