    So is Ryanair really profitable?

Motormouth must be fuming now that the real value of the subsidies and bungs they "receive" from various airports round Europe.
Have to admire the spin/deception that kept it under wraps for so long though.
AF/KLM are taking ryr to court in an action filed in Brussels

Ironic when one thinks about all the blustering bombast over the years.
Strip out all the, what is effectively, state aid and it is massively lossmaking
    Quelle Surprise!!

    Is Mick O'Leary just a big EU subsidy-bunny? - Business, Frontpage - Independent.ie

The Sunday Independent report on the Le Figaro story is quite interesting but hasn't this been previously ruled on by the EU in relation to supposed subsidies negoiated by Ryanair at Charleroi Airport in Belgium, if true it may alter people's perception of the Ryanair business model.

You did notice that it is Air France who took the action? subsidies are totally unknown in the French aircraft or airline businesses.

Getting cheap airport charges are part of the Ryanair model. It may not be 'subsidies' per se. Ryanair offer to deliver x amount of passengers in return for a low charge per skull, that is the deal for secondary airports. Spanish airports offered NO airport charges during the 2009/10 winter period to encourage tourism - that deal was open to everyone. Marketing subsidies of say up to €100k per route are a tactic used by many airports to bring in more traffic. Dublin Airport have a new 2010 scheme offering up to €100k for new routes that is open to Ryanair as well as everyone else.

You would find no irony in the situation if as alleged Ryanair would be a loss making airline without receiving state subsidies.

Stack 'em high... price 'em low

That's precisely the deal Ryanair has cut with all these little regional airports , far more customers: at lower prices

So long as the regional airports remain profit making- it's capitalism

I doubt they would be in business if it were true, you know arithmetic is never a strong point when lawyers put in a claim

If the state airlines went out and negotiated deals like Ryanair do, then they might not be in the trouble they now are. Why is it you find it so difficult to understand the low-cost model? It's so simple, it includes forcing down airport charges. You just can't seem to get your head around the simple fact that all costs must be targeted and reductions, no matter where they are achieved, are what determine profitability.
    Suppose you're rooting for AF/KLM

    Bias.

The Independent hates O'Leary. I have no love of him but so long as everything he did was legal he can claim all the profits. It is worthwhile pointing out that fundamentally profitable organizations make looses at certain times.
