Galway - Dublin Motorway Open Tomorrow (Fri)

NRA man on Matt Cooper has just said that the Galway - Ballinasloe motorway (56km) will be open from tomorrow, completing the motorway from Galway city to Dublin.

Imagine, two cities connected by a motorway.

fantastic it measn go bus will be evn quicker! Does anyone know where the tolls are, I would normally join the motorway at Athlone but hear there will be two toll bridges so will certainly encounter one if not two
If we were all born equal we would all be white, middle-class, middle-aged men!

As far as I know the only toll is at Cappataggle just outside Ballinasloe, and then it's toll free to Galway.

There's only a very short gap to be completed in the Cork-Dublin motorway which will be the longest continious stretch on this island when it is complete in 2010.

There's been quite an amazing sudden progress in these projects, I never really understood how they seemed to be soooo slow in the past.

Have to give Dempsey his kudos. Himself, Lenihan and Hanafin. Probably the only three I'd give any credit to (along with the two Greens of course). Cowen and Coughlan are the big problem(s).

Dempsey is a disgrace. Remember that shameful rant of his at the FF Ard Fhéis where he cursed the bankers for having brought Ireland to it's knees and FG-Lab for "dancing around a wounded economy".
The same bankers that FF had let run riot ( and then proceeded to give billions of our money to ) but Noel ommitted this important detail.

So you will be able to drive from Belfast to Dublin, Cork and Galway on continuous motorway very soon.

Great stuff. Now can we have some investment in rail please?
We need to radically change every system that has enabled the wholesale destruction of the Irish landscape, rural and urban. There is no time for incremental step by step measures. The systems have failed utterly and the only hope for a real recovery requires the rule book to be torn up completely.

At what price to local roads? How many non-DoE tested trucks were involved? How much Green Diesel was used? How many trucks loaded to twice the legal limit put lives at risk?

"On time and under budget" is code for every law pissed on.
