AA Roadwatch report major traffic jams in Newry as public sector workers go shopping.

*MAIN TRAFFIC* *A1/DOWN* Approaching Newry on the A1 there are reports of approx 6km delays from the Dublin side.

    AA Roadwatch : Home

There is bedlam today in Newry as the town is gridlocked due to a unusual midweek deluge of southern shoppers.

Local radio in Newry is reporting that ambulances are unable to access Daisy Hill Hospital, and that the PSNI are being requested to airlift emergency patients to and from hospital.

It is traditional that strikes would cause disruption to one's own jurisdiction.
I see that they have called a second day of picketing (or for the PS Newry shoppers, their first). It will be a date to avoid driving north anyway.

Actually the argument now would be that the cuts are neccessary to stop the flow of money out of the country

I find this hard to reconcile.

If we are to believe the Public sector workers, they are struggling to 'put food on the table' yet they can afford to travel North to buy what is in my opinion non essential foods and in truth LUXURY items of booze, toys, clothes.

Secondly, if people are struggling and living from day to day, how do they amass such lump sums as to bulk buy.

pay the public sector workers northern wages if they like Northern prices so much.

They're 10 miles apart -- but it's boomtown in Newry and gloomtown in Dundalk - Surviving the Recession, Personal Finance - Independent.ie
