Cut spending by any draconian measures we can take. Concentrate what money we have left on health, education and communications and pray.

This was actually predicted on last night's Drivetime on Radio 1: a public sector worker texted in to say that all the chat in her office was how great it would be to get a day out doing the Christmas shopping, and that shopping centres should get in extra staff because they would be needing them. She failed to anticipate that they would all go to Newry though!

It's well for the PS strikers that they can take a day off work to try and hold the Republic of Ireland to ransom, whilst they drive up to Northern Ireland, in their nice new cars, to spend all this money that they do not have on nice new stuff to play with. They should stay up there!

This was just covered on BBC NI news at lunchtime

Mentioned a huge spike in southern traffic at the end of the strike coverage piece.
Newsreporter gave a kind of nudge nudge wink wink gesture

Taxi driver on Joe saying last night was like New Year's Eve in Dublin city centre: one nightclub had to be closed by the Gardai because the queue to get in was so long!

Today' strike has divided the PS workers into two groups: super overpaid and just overpaid.

The super overpaid can afford a shopping spree in Dundrum, while the plain overpaid can afford the spree in Newry.
