If we are to believe the Public sector workers, they are struggling to 'put food on the table' yet they can afford to travel North to buy what is in my opinion non essential foods and in truth LUXURY items of booze, toys, clothes.

Secondly, if people are struggling and living from day to day, how do they amass such lump sums as to bulk buy.

pay the public sector workers northern wages if they like Northern prices so much.
Totally agree, this is one big JOKE. But believe me, these "traffic jams" won't help their so called cause - shame on them !

6km according to AA. Unions cannot deny that a large number of PS workers went up the North to shop today instead of striking. Even if they went up after picketing for 2hours, they are still causing government revenue to shrink...yet they demand their pay be untouched! Time for a true right winged government to take the helm.

On the site today, the number of public sector defenders appears down - they must all be in Newry or they don't use the internet at home.

yes they dont see the connection between tax take and where their wage is paid from.

less money in the exchequer because of falling VAT receipts(due to nothern shopping) strengthens the pressure on government to cut the PS wages.

while we all accept the incomptence of our politicans, I always thought the civil servants were the smart ones.

Good thread this. If the media had some cop on they'd be up there now verifying the 'facts'. If this turns out to be true then all the hard work done by the PS in conjunction with the floods will evaporate.

One caveat though..... Nope, just checked this out as I thought the UK government was going to reverse their 15% VAT to 17,5% next month, but they're holding it until end of December. So there's no real excuse for such a huge influx on Tuesday 24th of November other than what we all suspect.
