Malahide viaduct repaired, but commuters prefer the bus now!

They can get a seat; it drops them closer to home; they don't have to walk or drive to the station to get a squashed standing only commute.

Dublin Bus happy, Irish Rail may have a bit of marketing to do.

A friend lives in Donabate and works in town. He told me that life has been so much easier while the trains have not been running! There has been a special bus operating via the Port Tunnel which has been quicker, more convenient and less crowded. Bizarre really.

Sounds good bar the fact the Iarnrod Eireann were subsidising the buses. Would it pay for Dublin Bus to have that service full time. Answer NO NO NO

As resident of Lucan, close by Adamstown, where the new, and no doubt enormously expensive, train station sits like a white elephant disguised as a stranded sp aceship, I always use the bus (25a, 25X, 25N or even the 151) as they are cleaner, more convenient (in terms of access at both ends of the route), cheaper, less crowded, far more frequent and, dare I say it, punctual.

Until we have integrated ticketing, where the one fare covers all possible options for a given route or set of routes (up to and including all routes), and in the case of rail from my side of the city, an underground system linking Heuston to the city centre, the bus will be king.

So my message to Irish Rail is "give service or give up".

Does this mean we can scrap Metro North and just have a bus service to the airport?

Integrated ticketing? You must be joking! That would require .... like .... a plan.

In the city a metro will always be faster than a bus, the fact Dublin has no underground metro, or integrated ticketing is a disgrace. Also train fares need to be brought down, but IR were like most state agencies encouraged to make a profit, so fares went up. Wether it makes a profit or not should be irrelevant in the case of public services.

Is there one other city in europe outside our dear emerald isle that does NOT have integrated ticketing across the majority of public transport modes?

Yeah, it's pretty pathetic. Personally, I'm only about 15 minutes walk from the dart line but prefer to take the bus. For one main reason really, it's far mare frequent. I'll never be 20m waiting on the bus.
