Study on Bus v Car usage during Viaduct closure

Since IE closed the Viaduct there has been a significant increase in the number of buses in an attempt to alleviate some of the hardship cause by the reduced rail service.

It would be good if a study was undertaken to try and ascertain whether the additional bus services, aside from providing a rail replacement service, are actually persuading people to leave the car at home.

Anecdotally I am hearing of people using bus services more because their frequency allow more opportunities rather than the miss one wait for an hour concept.

Does anybody know whether such a study is being undertaken as potentially if shown to work it could allow an increase bus service and rail service post reopening of the line.

    Trains v buses

THe only reason more people are using buses is 'cause they're non-stop to an from Connolly via the Port tunnel. For some commuters (Drogheda, Balbriggan), this means that commuting can actually be faster and, of course, buses leave when full, irrespective of timetable....

For other poor sods, they have to drive to Dundalk/Drogheda or Balbriggan to get these buses as the bus/rail combo is simply idiotic! Yeah, the buses are fine, but then you're back to waiting on a platform for up to an hour or more, depending on the very limited timetable....

Matthews coach service is one that already operates to and from Drogheda (& City North hotel) to the IFSC via the Port Tunnel daily. However, the cost of this service is fairly prohibitive, even with the tax saver ticket. So I can't see any additional direct services being introduced once the aquaduct is repaired. There simply won't be the numbers....

I wasn't some much relying on the services to Dublin I was thinking more in relation to the local services because the frequency has tempted more people on to them for the local journeys which were poorly served before.

Potentially there may be an opportunity.
