Protest meeting in rathcabbin on Monday 17 October closure of the bogs

There are a lot of rural bog owners very unhappy about this incoming ban on the cutting of turf. Michael d Higgins unlikely to get a landslide majority around here, instead maybe a boot in the bog hole. There is a protest meeting in rathcabbin hall on Monday night 17th at 8.30 and tds and meps have been invited to attend.

Why stop the small guy or gal while bord na mona merrily cuts away?

Following a protest in ballinasloe this week (apparently Mitchell ran for cover but Kenny stood his ground) the blood is up so it should be interesting to see what happens.....

I thought this thread was about public toilets!
But seriously, it's another form of interferance from Brussels in an Irish custom going on for centuries.
I know bogs are repositories of ancient artifacts but they all can't be hiding bronze age relics?

Ah the whiff of rural Irish gombeenism.

Theres already a thread on the subject :Enough ! Turf Cutting Prohibition on Raised Bogs

As you will see the issue is confined to a very small number of raised bogs with owners being offered compensation and/or alternative plots.
