I do remember reading an interview in a magazine back in the early 1990's, Magill I think, where Gerry Adam's himself did make the statement that FF and SF drew from the same political pot for their support base. So I guess they are just following on the long road created by the Brits of divide and conquer and divide again and sooner or later the Paddies will get fed up.

Well Fianna Fail seem to be heading for electoral oblivion. So perhaps there's hope.

I doubt they are....As much as a lot of people are annoyed with them when they get into the voting booths they are not going to vote Fine Gael and voting Labour might aswell be voting Blue shirt.

That means not 100% prejudiced bashers or full-on apologists (have I ruled everybody out?). I kid.

With the ascension of Gerry Adams and the northern cohorts to the leadership of Sinn Féin in the early eighties, this policy of Éire Nua as proposed by Ó Brádaigh et al was thrown on the slag heap.

I was wondering whether anybody sees merit in this proposal nowadays or whether it really is obsolete as a guideline for a UI.
    I think it is obsolete.

Sinn Féin has set up a Task Force on Irish Unity which is currently running conferences in London, which are aimed at talking about some broad parameters of debate.

Eire Nua seems like a good idea when you consider the marginalisation of areas like the west. It would be a lot better for the west if they had control over their own region rather than it being from the east where most of the money seems to stay. So for regional development alone it gets my thumbs up.

And they're making huge strides in the area of unity I take it?

The aim is to talk about broad parameters of debate?

Sounds like something the People's Front of Judaea would come up with.
