    Sinn Féin electoral progress 2009

Sinn Féin continues to make electoral progress 2009 and has a good set of elections.

In the two Dublin bye elections: Sinn Féin vote share up.

In the 26 county European elections: Sinn Féin vote share up.

In the 26 county locals: Sinn Féin look set to maintain the number of councillors.

Thus Sinn Féin continues to be the only party in the 26 counties who have increased their share of the vote or maintains its number of elected representatives in each and every successive like for like election since the 1980s.

There are a lot of people out there wanting to do down Sinn Féin or argue (in spite of the above) that Sinn Féin did not have a good election. They are talking nonsense. All in all, Sinn Féin elecoral progress 2009 has been a good record to build on going forward. Well done to all the activists. It is steady and sustainable growth that the party aims for and that will deliver in the long term.

For workers rights, labour values, and an Ireland of Equals.

I'm not necessarily saying that SF had a bad election but they should have had a much better one given the size of both the left vote and the protest vote in the local elections.

Christy Burke didn't do great in the By election.

The euro elections were a success though even if SF end up with no seats.

A lot of hard questions need to be asked.

Hate to tell you this factual - Sinn Fein's vote in the locals is down from 8.1% to 7.3% and it looks like a drop of two seats as well. They are currently on 52 compared to 54 last time and I can't see anywhere they will pick up anymore.

Factual never lets the facts get in the way of his spin on Sinn Fein.

At best as Gerry Adams himself said SF hope to have consolidated their position in the Republic not make gains.

There you go again with your facts. Why do you allow reality to intrude in a good story?

Factual, King of Spin. If vote-hare doesn't translate into seats, you're nowhere. Looks like you're a MEP down and that SF will end up with less councilors. Nothing like the significant meltdown of FF - but the party had clearly plateaued.

The election was a real curate's egg - good and bad in places.

Many new locations where progress has been made - 3 sf councillors in mayo, 2 in Limerick, 2 in Listowel, first time in KK, TF fighting till the last minute for the 3rd seat, Mary lou's seat is a pity considering she has been such a vocal defender of worker's rights against a race to the bottom.

the story could be wrapped up into 2 chapters - dublin(standing still) and the rest of the south(some progress made).

SF only had one councillor, Maurice Quinlivan, elected to Limerick City Council and none to Limerick County Council, don't know where you are getting two SF councillors in Limerick from.
