Both Republican Sinn Féin and Provisional Sinn Féin made up a single, united Sinn Féin organisation until the Sinn Féin Ard Fheis of November 1986 when a split over the dropping of abstentionism (i.e. recognition of the 26 county state and, if elected, participation in the 26 county administration at Leinster House) occurred. The "Adams' camp" (provisional) supported entering Leinster House, while the "Ó'Brádaigh camp" (republican) opposed the move, ultimately leading to the split.

That's the fundamental difference between the two, though over the years a number of other differences between the two have arisen - differing views on ceasefires, entering Stormont, decommissioning, etc.

That's as simple as I can make it.

The Sinn Fein Ard Fheis voted to change it constitution in 1986 to end abstentionism to Leinster Hse, a small group of people opposed to this move walked out of the Ard Fheis after failing in their attempt to stop this, they went on to form RSF.

It would also seem that the SF have accepted the electoral system as a legitimate means to one day becoming a government, whereas RSF already believe that they should be in power as of right, regardless of how Irish men and women actually vote.

Hundreds of thousands of Irish people vote for and support Sinn Féin's strategy.

RSF on the other hand dedicate themselves entirely to criticising everything SF does.

RSF is the legitimate government of Ireland. SF is a political party. :!:

Nothing will motivate the lazy / apathetic / Americanised / west-British types to embrace their culture and the Irish language.

    .
Why is Adams camp called 'provisional'? because of the links to provision IRA?

Does both SF and RSF have their own branches of the IRA? Like Provisional IRA and Real (i.e. Republican or RSF) IRA?
That's complete nonsense. I disagree with you.

But too be fair, it probably was a constitutionally questionable issue. SF had always said that it was a core principle that they would never recognise a partitionist assembly, thats why you got rid of all those FF traitors in '26.

RSF are not a politcal party. They are a movement and their name is Sinn Fein. Really Conor have you learned nothing in the last few years here.
