SF MP's claim £500,000 in expenses for not attending

Mary Lou McDonald may get a debate about expenses but not the one she had hoped for.

Breakingnews.ie are reporting that SF MP's have claimed £500,000 in expenses for a running a second home, despite the fact that the SF MP's dont attend the Wesminster Parliament.

    Sinn Féin MPs claim £500,000 despite non-attendance | BreakingNews.ie.

Since MLM was so keen to discuss expenses on Pat Kenny on wednesday and on RTE Saturday view today, I can't wait to hear her or any other SF spokesman explain away this one.

In light of MLM poor record of attendance at the EU parliament , perhaps she is conduction a one woman campaign of abstensionism in the EU, after all it pays pretty well for Gerry and the boys in Westminster.

Sinn Féin MPs should be treated equally. Since the DUP MPs get housing expenses for running a second home so too should Sinn Féin.

This doesn't make sense. So you're saying that because the DUP claim it, so should Sinn Fein?

If this money is not spent on a second home, where does it go?

I know I'm not the sharpest knife in the kitchen, but does Factual get anything from SF for being their public defender on this site ? Does anyone remember a posting by him / her where criticism of SF was expressed ?

    Where does this money go?

Sinn Fein have tried to make political advantage of the expenses row here. So their reaction to this should be interesting. Although I have to say, hasn't this been known for years..

Poor Mary Lou's initial confident stride on today's Saturday View programme soon ran into quicksand. It's all very well opposing Lisbon (and Nice and whatever else the Shinners feel doesn't fit in their square-hole board game) but when the subject of attendance came up she was well and truly rattled. Anyway, (and the feminists will have my ass in a sling for saying this) why in God's name did she start a family in the middle of her MEP term? Does she want her bread buttered on all four sides? Her non-attendance is a major bang on the head for her ego-tripping tirades against her fellow MEPs.

Digressing from this, has it occurred to anyone else (FFers in particular) that Biffo WANTS to lose the two by-elections in June? Let's face it, the next few years will be a politician's nightmare and FF are so far down in the polls they can only go one way: up. And that isn't going to happen in Government. The thought has occurred to me that he's quietly decided that an election that will dump FF into opposition is good for his Party. FG and Labour will have to run with the poisoned chalice and just do the same things as Cowen's lads. There's no other option other than cuts, cuts, cuts.
Even with Gilmore in the sidecar, and maybe with Green support.

    Or am I overestimating him?
