Would Ógra SINN Féin learn Irish

I am sick of it, and I really think that it's time to say something about it! Please, if you wish to use Irish in your name, please make sure that it's correct?
I saw it first, and I thaught it was a mistake, but I have seen it on official notices, and I think that it's a disgrace! I am referring to the use of Ógra SHinn Féin. This is grammatically incorrect, and should be Ógra Sinn Féin. There is no reason to put a seimhiú here. And it's totally out of order for a party that pertains to be a proponent of the Irish language.
    Get your act together lads!
    Correct this mistake.

    Do you mean McBowell?

I've always wondered about this myself, especially since Ógra Fianna Fáil have no séimhiú. I just assumed it to be typical FF incompetence. I'll be sure to bring it up with someone from ÓSF.

I remember when we were changing the name from SFY to OSF a few years back and it was debated. The decision was taken when a number of fluent Irish speakers and one from the Gaeltacht said that it did take a seimhiú.

...even though Fianna Fáil came from Sinn Féin?

    Lovely logic.

That's my recollection too. I remember being very annoyed at the time because Ógra had just spent a fortune on a banner with the 'Sinn' in it and at the time the language wasn't a big issue for me. The non-Irish speakers took advice from the gaeilgoirí present and inserted the 'h'.

Considering the super-pedantic nature of some of the Irish speaking comrades in the party 'This is a mess, you left out the fada on page 43' I'm stunned at the suggestion that they could all be wrong.

Re: Would Ógra SINN Féin learn Irish

    Firstly, it's "Mumhain", not "múmhain".

    Secondly, it's "Dál", not "dal".

    Thirdly, it's "séimhiú", not "seimhiú"

Fourthly, it is indeed "Ógra Shinn Féin", not "Ógra Sinn Féin" (déan athstaidéar ar d'thuiseal ginideach, a mhiceo).

Fifthly, in response to coconut, Ógra FF should indeed also take a séimhiú. Your first guess (typical FF incompetence) was the right one.

ETA: Sixthly, it's "níos fearr", not (shudders) "níos maithe".

Seventhly, it's "an Ghaeilge", not "an Gaeilge".

    Anyone else suspicious by now?

Yes, I thought that the statement "The word ógra does not take a seimhú" was less than convincing. Surely it's not a case of whether the word "takes" a seimhiú or not, but whether "Sinn Féin" is in the tuiseal ginideach, and what modification is appropriate for that case.

If "Ógra Shinn Féin" means "Youth of Sinn Féin", then surely this is the genitive case and "Sinn Féin" should be modified accordingly.

What would be the correct form of Ógra Fianna Fáil and Ógra Fine Gael?

The Young Greens use a slightly different formulation, "Óige Ghlas" (note modification of "Glas"). I'm afraid I'm not clear on the respective meanings of Óige and Ógra.
