Re: British Naval Presence in Cork.

Oh, I think we should quote a little, just to give people a feel for the tone...

The MacCurtain / McSwiney Cumann, Republican Sinn Féin Cork in the strongest possible terms condemns the visit of two British Naval Death ships to Cork.

These symbols of British Imperialism and Occupation forces being invited to these shores for any reason is despicable. Now or at anytime will Republican Sinn Féin allow the normalisation of relations between these Islands not until such time as the English Occupier has left this Country.

As they say on those TV infomercials, that's not all!

Repeat after me: the Union Jack is not the English flag...

The "death ship" thing made me laugh. Very Star Wars.

That happens on a regular basis Bogwarrior. Royal Navy vessels stop for a day or two in Irish ports every few months, just as they stop for a day or two in ports all around the world. Usually, the officers will host some sort of reception on board for invited dignitaries, and the non-commissioned sailors will go on the piss downtown in civilian clothes.

Of all the barmy RSF statements in all the world, this gem just brings them to a whole new level of nonsense.....

The majority cannot therefore be the elite.

I'm not one to talk, but if accurately quoted on indymedia that was weird grammar in the RSF statement.

I was down meeting friends in Cork for the last few days (yes i posted from hols... ) Getting a bus back up today was a bit of a joke I was strongly considering heading over to the Brits and asking for a lift if they were leaving today.

commemorating a man who dies collaborating on a u-boat is ok but having british ships docked in Cork in 2005 is unaccpetable? Grow up and start being loyal to a state that is self-confident enough not to worry about these things!!! You don't see the Americans complaining at this sort of thing

I dont see whats wrong with RSF's statement.
If you have no problem with warships docking in Cork, I assume you have no problem with US warplanes in Shannon. Why is there so much support for the Shannon demilitarisation campaign, yet sniggers for RSF's statement?
