Special Branch Raid SF Cllr's House In Cork.

In yet another attempt to intimidate Sinn Fein special branch raided the house of 19 year old Passage west & monkstown councillor - Roisin O'sullivan. The Raid took place last night at 8 PM in which branch officers recklessly tore apart the O'Sullivan household.

Cork Sinn Fein issued a statement early this morning condemning the raid as being "politically motivated" and saying that it was not the function of the Gardai to carry out the political vendetta of Michael McDowell.

Surely this type of harrassment should be condemned by all political parties. If not then it is there are dark clouds gathering over the civil liberties of all who live on this island.

This could work in Sinn Fein´s favour if the Gardai continue to harrass members of the party in this manner, and fail to produce any evidence to back up Michael McDowell´s rantings in the press.

19? Get them in SF when their young and it makes it a lot easier to indoctrinate them. As for the Gardai being politically motivated, would the IRA not see the murder of Garda McCabe as "politically motivated"? Your lucky they only took a look around her gaff, and didn't shoot her.

do you think the raid had anything to do with the linking of £2 million in Cork with a former Sinn Fein Vice-President, and with a former Sinn Fein candidate for Dail Eireann, or do you think the raid was co-incidental to that, and was entirely politically motivated and was ordered by the Minister for Justice?

I notice you added hopefully to that, so what happens if they start with Sinn Fein then afterwards use the same actions against other groups such as trade union´s, pressure groups etc.

I think its all part of the government putting up rather than shutting up...
Sinn Fein should be happy - is this 2.6m recovered not what they wanted?
Surely if they have no criminals they want crimes to be solved?

well if they find millions in laundered sterling and some AK rounds while carrying out raids on the homes of trade union members, then I would fully support an investigation into the alleged links between trade unions and criminality. However, I would also support an independent ombudsman to investigate Garda corruption to ensure the Gardai weren't planting the sterling and the AK rounds on the orders of the Government.
