SF to picket drug dealers in Tralee

    http://www.irishexaminer.com/pport/w...O-LCk0lQvU.asp
FEARS of a resurgence of vigilante activity against alleged drug pushers in Kerry emerged yesterday, following a threat by Sinn Féin TD Martin Ferris that the party would picket the house of a leading drug dealer in Tralee.

Mr Ferris said Sinn Féin told the gardaí of the person’s activities over a year ago, but the person had continued to operate with impunity.
And here was me thinking that the shinners wer now fully subscribed to the Gardai and the institutions of state.

Is this the wayy forward: the private army will becaome a private police force?

I think the question should be why have the Gardaí not acted on the information in the past year.

Do you feel it is right for a political party to take the law into their own hands in this manner?

    1) They might not have any evidence
    2) They may have been gathering evidence, something which would be made infinitely harder by the proposed picket.
    3) The "information" may not be true.

I can understand where Ferris is coming from, but a picket is wrong.

I think local parents have to right to protect their children from scum openly selling drugs on the estate were they live, if the Gardaí fail to act when notified of the problem.

Maybe the information is flawed? Maybe the story is being exaggerated by SF for cheap publicity as was done in relation to my secondary school were SF made up stories about drugs being openly sold in the school.

Organising a picket is not taking the law into their own hands, that is showing support to the residents in the area that have to live beside drug dealers.

OK, do you support vigilante activity against these alleged drug pushers?

Surely you believe people are innocent until proven guilty? Or does that just apply to the IRA and not your everyday criminals?
