Ógra Shinn Féin produce Short Film on Basque Struggle

The youth wing of Sinn Féin has produced a short film of a recent mobilisation to the Basque Country. A short preview of the film has been uploaded to YouTube.

    <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZJtAFoXEI_A&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZJtAFoXEI_A&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

Ógra Shinn Féin sent a large delegation of activists to the Basque Country in September of 2007, the mobilisation was planned to demonstrate solidarity, raise awareness of the peace process and learn from the huge growth and organisation of Basque Youth.

While in the Basque Country, Ógra Shinn Féin travelled to political, social and cultural events across the oppressed nation, into both French and Spanish occupied territory.

At a ‘banned’ march in the picturesque town of Donostia, the Irish youth delegation also experienced at first hand the brutal oppression of the Spanish state when the state police opened indiscriminately on peaceful protestors.

Any problems with people who indiscriminately blow people's legs off?

They "opened" on them? As in, all over their new shirts and everything?

WTF is with this "mobilisation" business. You took a trip to Spain and wandered down a street in a parade. I also don't see the "the state police" who "opened indiscriminately" on the protestors. What did they open, a Tapas Bar?

If you watch the whole dvd, the police open fire indiscriminately with plastic bullets firing countless times into the crowd, I wish i could say it wasnt a regular occurance in the basque country.

We built links with and expressed our solidarity with SEGI and the wider basque independence movement who are horribly oppressed by the Spanish government. When you see the the gratitude shown for our solidarity it is obvious the value of trips like this.

Meriweather: I've never heard of a junket where activists had to pay their own way.

OSF, didn't they oppose the PSNI but are now in favour of them? Maybe they're too ashamed to fight their leaders in the PSNI in the North, go off and fight another police force instead.

If things get really bad in Iraq and Afghanistan Gerry and Martin will encourage them to join the Brits to help out - what will they do then?

    Smash partition? - failed
    Smash Stormont? - failed
    Smash the PSNI - failed
Brist out - er, failed on that one too...
