Just wondering, as a hard-left party, what is SF's official line, if they have any, on the reintroduction of third level fees?

Opposed. As a socialist party we believe in free education.Originally Posted by Quant

The reality is that we have a perfect facility for raising money for expenditure through our taxation system. Sinn Féin supports a redistributative tax system that would allow for greater investment in support for those who want to attend university. As was pointed out repeatedly at the time of the fees debate, the introduction of fees at the levels talked about by Dempsey would raise a tiny amount of money.
I fundementally disagree with Cain. The very idea that a penny of my taxes goes to fund the likes of BarryW or MJ shows the ludicrousness of the "free fees" situation.
I demand to be given a list of every single student who intends to benefit from the scheme, so that I can personally vet them.
Any rabid right wingers can pay for themselves. Thats market economics lads, tough ************************e

Personally vet them, eh RoC?
You know, just because someone has conservative, right wing views doesn't mean that they were born with a silver spoon in their mouths just as much as look at all the so-called ''champagne socialists'' or lefties to smell of old rags and cavier... so I supposed you'd only want left-wing individuals in college so that the educated agenda had a left-wing slant, hence allowing no balance of opinion.
Yeah crap idea RoC

Im all for free University education for people who are not big earners,as someone from a working class background i was unable to afford to go to University many years ago upon leaving school as the fees quoted were too high, many years later i did end up going to college part time but had to shell out big money myself to pay for it despite not earning a lot,the system is all wrong.
I think people should be assessed on their financial situation, high earners should be liable to pay fees, whereas people on modest incomes should get free or cheap college education,in a perfect world all education should be free but not in this damn country, that's just my opinion anyway.![]()

The biggest problem is where you set the limit of incomes. I believe in fair restributive taxation, and that goes against the grain of flat taxation and flat benefits

I think the big problem is how you measure someone's income. Someone earning a €100,000 isn't so rich if he/she has a partner and 5 kids to support and a massive mortgage. The sham of the maintenance grants show this. The biggest problem is where you set the limit of incomes.
Interesting how right wing equals wealthy!Any rabid right wingers can pay for themselves
