    I'd tend to agree with you there actually. I see the scale as two-fold however. Economically speaking I'd put Liberals on the right. Have you read David Caute's attempts to define left and right? Quite interesting.

    You should try and track down his book The Left In Europe Since 1789 because I can't find much online. It is out of print but I got a copy on Ebay for £1.99. It's a really good book with some very nice pictures of the 1848 revolutions and old propaganda and stuff. His argument is a bit difficult to condense and as it is enriches by his examples I wouldn't really be doing it any favours.
