    Sinn Fein Mayor of Athlone

Congratulations to Paul Hogan who was elected Mayor of Athlone on Monday night. He was supported by all 4 Fianna Fail councillors. A certain Mr P Cooneys son was defeated for the post. I can only imagine the look on Paddy face.
One small positive glimmer in a disasterous few weeks.

American tourist in Athlone bar : 'Bartender, they tell me this here's the arsehole of Ireland'.

Barman : 'Well, they might be right considering some of the ************************e passing through it.'

Quite a vicious reference to the fact that Custume Barracks, HQ for the Irish Defence Forces' Western Command, is in Athlone. I mean I'm no cheerleader for the Defence Forces but I think that's a bit harsh.

Anyway, congrats to Paul. A good chap and a sound comrade.

another demonstration of RSF's fine grasp on reality there then
Enda Kenny on FF government: “We’re in this mess, not because Fianna Fáil policies have failed, but because they have succeeded.”
