Are Sinn Fein a Socialist Political Party?

A simple but important question. Are Sinn Fein a Socialist Political Party?

We are told their goal is a “32-County Socialist Republic” however the word Socialism is never used in their press or activity. The closest thing I’ve heard to Socialism is “Building an Ireland of Equals”. Which is basically a hollow cliché. I have seen their youth wing use the odd image of Connolly or Che Guevara, but again who doesn’t and again it’s hollow without any Socialist content.

Is a case that they use Opportunism Socialism just to get a few left-wing votes, new youth members or to keep any remaining Socialists in Sinn Fein happy? Romantic Socialism? Or similar to the time Bertie Ahern saying he was a Socialist!

My own opinion is they are not Socialists, but sure maybe I will be proven wrong, maybe proven correct…..

They are led by Millionaires but their grassroots would like a Socialist Ireland despite being unable to deliver it.

They are certainly not a Hibernian Nationalist party although some people of that ilk were involved with them years ago.

They've thankfully more or less ditched all the jingoistic 'socialist' talk and are moving towards a more moderate Social Democratic platform.

They claim to be, but I would argue that they are more populist than socialist. I suspect that they are Fianna Fáil mark two in the making...

IF YOU BUILD IT THEY WILL COME

I see the hate fest is off and running. A fair OP but we will be off to the world of madness shortly. I hear Johnny and Ex Celt etc running down the corridor to get their computers booted as I type.
It's only a bit of craic

Sinn Féin is now all things to all people - it paints itself as a populist party that appeals to young people who are tired of the FF party of the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents, it also steals votes from radical wing of the Labour Party and it also enjoys the support of ultra-nationalists, gaelgoirí fascists, racists, rabid right wing Catholic lunatics and foaming at the mouth anti-capitalists.

No they are not Socialists, never have been. When they merge with ff you will see their true state.
