Jayus, I haven't met them !!!! One of our cumman is what you call a " middle class professional ", the rest of us are just plain old blue collar Dubs and cluchies.

No they are not - they could choose not to implement austerity
I'm genuniely interested in the alternative. Say the ULA in the six counties got SF's vote in the last Assembly elections with 29 seats and as you say they choose not to implement austerity. The DUP (38) could then cobble together an administration with the SDLP (14) and UUP (16) seats. And so Westminister would give them say €8 Billion to run the statelet. Therefore :

    A) How could they influence the DUP/SDLP/UUP on how it spends the €8 Billion ?

B ) How could they force Westminister to give them more than €8 Billion to run the place ?

Genuinely, I'd like to know what the ULA's alternative stratedgy would be ?

If you ever want to see a united Ireland then that is the only way - in the meantime SF can content themselves with their bed-hopping exercise with the DUP and the UUP.
And it seems the ULA will have to content themselves with reading Das Kapital and their bed-hopping exercise with the Technical group in the Dail which includes capitalists such as Mick Wallace and right wingers such as Shane Ross and Stephen Donnelly. Strange company for revolutionary Marxists !!!

Well if they are still a socialist party, then why are they voting to privatise public services?

And thats before you get into the issue of water charges in the North.
