Once Adams leaves the scene, any takers on who the next party leader would be?
I think it would be a big mistake if they choose mcguinness considering his rep with unionists and the 26

Since the party has decided to change its focus to the South i think preferably it would need to have a Southern party leader.Due to election results i think this is not possible for now.Pearse Doherty is a great prospect and he was very unfortunate not to be elected recently but he is young and too young yet to be leader.I m not sure about Mary Lou as leader either.I would say Conor Murphy as leader and Mary Lou or O Caolain as deputy leader.I also admire Caitriona Ruane.I think Adams will step aside before next Southern elections.
If and When Gerry Adams decides to stand down, or the grass roots of the party decide to replace him, that decision will be decided by them alone, and the decision of any replacement would take place at an Ard Fheis, after the grass roots have decided at local level, it would not be influenced by a discussion on this or any other forum.
And any future leader would be choosen on merit, not on wether they come from north or south that has no bearing on the issue.
A little touchy there Padraig.Obviously the party will decide utililising its procedures.Yeah your right where any new leader is from is merely speculation and will not be a factor in any decision.
This form is merely for idle discussion
Not being touchy about it at all, I just can't understand this attitude that any new leader must be from the south according to some posters here, Sinn Féin have a collective leadership, no one person is any more important then any other and in an all-Ireland party the north/south issue is meaningless.Originally Posted by Ulsterlad
It is hard work on the ground by the grassroots that will and have brought results, and that is a long term objective, the party has to continue building on.
Imo the leadership should reflect the reality on the ground. We need to promote new leaders from all of Ireland to reflect the party's all Ireland status. While no knee jerk reaction would be favourable, considered alternatives have to be mooted. The dynamics of Irish politics has changed in the last six months. The leadership should reflect the change and be able to articulate old and new policies within the changed situation.

It's not an argument, just a suggestion. Have you a problem with Kerrymen?Originally Posted by rockyracoon

I wul say Martin Mcguiness will be a good leader unless he does not want
To contest for the leadership THEN MARY LOU will be a better prospective
Leadership of their party.![]()
