The reality is that all of these apparent contradictions apply only at a superficial level. SF is, in fact, a single issue organization currently posing as a political party. But their only goal is a united Ireland - and let there be no doubt but that they will resort to any means, including a return to violence, if they deem it the approach most likely to succeed, in pursuit of that goal. Their current set of ill-conceived and poorly developed policies merely serve to confirm the irrelevance to them of all issues not related to the "national question".

I am no expert on the Party, but at least I read the thread and ask questions, I genuinely am interested in the possible directions they may take as I believe they will be a major force in Irish politics for years to come.

The issues raised in the OP are worthy of discussion even if it is intended as an anti-SF rant. SF has inherent contradictions. It purports to be far left in the South but in the North it is implementing welfare cuts in line with UK coalition government funding constraints. McGuinness on the Presidential campaign trail blamed the UK government for SF being party to implemenation of social services cuts etc.

SF as the major party on the Republican-Nationalist side of sectarian manages to sweep up a lot of middleclass votes whereas in the South it appears to be primarily a working class voter and support base it targets. Odd.
