Sinn Féin councillor Branley resigns in Donegal

EXCLUSIVE: Sinn Féin councillor Branley resigns from party - Local - Donegal Democrat

Highland Radio – Latest Donegal News and Sport » Sinn Fein describes Donegal Councillor’s departure as regrettable

“I am resigning from the party with effect from tomorrow, Thursday, January 19th.

“On the sad passing of my late father, Cllr. PJ Branley, I was approached by the local Sinn Féin party to carry on the work that my father had diligently carried out on behalf of the people of Ballyshannon.

“After consultations with my family and friends, I decided to let my name go forward.

“In the following election, the people of Ballyshannon came out and gave tremendous support to myself personally, and also to my family. Subsequently, I received 247 votes, and topped the poll on the first count.

“It soon became evident that a female voice in Ballyshannon was not treated to seriously and divisions appeared - in our party of equals!!!”
    Another one gone?

why did you leave this out ?
The party suspended Cllr. Branley in October pending an investigation, after she was involved in a court cause where an assault charge against her was dismissed. She has not been reinstated and a party spokesperson said earlier this week that the investigation is still ongoing.

Lol. Did you never see bridge over the river Kwai. Sometimes you have to build them just to knock them down again.

    Elsewhere in Donegal:

STATEMENT ON MY OIREACHTAS WAGES AND EXPENSES- PÁDRAIG MAC LOCHLAINN, TD

"Sinn Féin party policy as endorsed by our Ard Fhéis (Annual Conference) states that all Sinn Féin representatives elected to the Dáil, Northern Assembly, European Parliament, or Westminster Parliament receive the party wage based on the average industrial wage within their state of residence. All additional income they receive must be donated back to the party and/or invested in to the representative’s constituency service.

This policy is a well-known public commitment and it is regularly outlined by Sinn Féin leadership, elected representatives and election candidates.

In my case, all additional income that I receive is invested into my constituency service (the employment of an additional full time Constituency Secretary).

I am paid a standard TD’s salary of €92,672 gross per annum. After tax, USC, pension levy, and pension contributions, I receive into my bank account €44,241 net annually. As a Sinn Féin TD, I take home a salary of €29,900 net per annum or €575 net per week.

I receive a fixed amount of €34,850 per annum for travel and accommodation expenses. After the actual cost of my travel and accommodation is provided for, I deploy the balance along with the remaining amount from my wage to the salary of an additional full time constituency secretary.

In 2011, I received €21,416 for fully vouched office costs/ expenses, including the rent and utility costs of my two constituency offices in Buncrana and Letterkenny. Of that, I will have deployed €21,087.19 for which I have retained all invoices and evidence of expenditure and the remainder will be returned to the Oireachtas.

Finally, new TDs are allocated an office start up grant of €8,000 as a once off payment. I availed of €7,865.77 to fit out my two constituency offices for which I have submitted all invoices and evidence of expenditure to the Oireachtas."

So the Shinners don't return that bit of the salary they claim they don't keep - instead they let their party pocket it. In other words, it is a fiddle. They insist taxpayers pay for their own offices and to line the pockets of their staff.
Tomas Mor and statsman like this.
"Irish citizens . . . on ratification of the Treaty could be forced to become Euro soldiers." Sinn Féin claim on Maastricht in 'Democracy or Dependency' p.6. in 1992.

They create additional jobs. Thus saving the taxpayer money. Excellent. FG/FF/LP please copy. *stifles laugh*
