Sinn Féin to vote against FF/PD/Green Government – Ó Caoláin

    http://www.sinnfein.ie/news/detail/19449

Great to see, back to grass roots campaigning,

"We are a campaigning party and we will build and mobilise among communities demanding their rights to decent healthcare, education, housing and a clean and safe environment. We look forward with confidence to our work in the 30th Dáil."

a blatant attack on the Green Party double speak,

"Most glaringly it contradicts two core values of the Green Party - equity in our health services and Irish neutrality and independent foreign policy."

Keeping true to their commitments on Shannon, and slamming the Green's for their betrayal,

"It allows Shannon Airport to continue as a staging post for the US/British war in Iraq, in complete violation of our neutrality."

Have the Greens irreprably damaged their credibility?

Could this election have been a godsend to SF?

The Greens and Labour have been damaged by this election, and have been descredited on the Left - its now time to build SF up as a leader of the broad Irish Left and pave the way forward for true change!

Bob, the problem though is that the greens have just added to further descredit all politicans. They were seen as conviction, principled politicans and when people see that they are as bad as any of the mainstream parties that is hugely damaging.

I don`t agree with your analysis Kf. Most people want their party to go into government. The fringe element will be pissed off and they`ll lose that but they will also gain votes by allowing people to see that they are a party with something constructive to say rather than being crazy loons . Swings and roundabouts and I also think that they will gain a lot more in the long run than they will lose.

as for the original post. Fair play to SF for some of the campaigns that they were involved in but others were just a load of ************************e where they were telling people to regard the state as one big piggybank. I hope that they are more constructive than just being against stuff and coming up with ludicrous plans.

Mac Ehavalley if you`re not interested in politics why are you on a political website. SF/ FG /Lab and Greens are hugely interesting parties as they are parties that need to change or die ,or are on the verge of change . The most boring party out there is FF, the biggest.

I disagree, I don't think the Greens have tarnished all others, they have tarnished the Greens in Ireland with people viewing them now as nothing more than a power hungry politicians.

I think this may have been a God Send to SF - because on the crest of the wave following the Northern Election, I think they may have wrongly at this stage entered into coalition with FF.

Now is a chance to re-assess where it all went wrong for SF, which i believe lies in better organisation and stronger community based policies in the south. Building up and empowering communities like they have done in the North.

I also think coalition ruined the PD's, we shall wait to see what it does to the Green's, I think the Greens have shot themselves in the foot and in return will pave the way for a SF re-surgence in the local and following general election!

I have to say I am extremely happy that the party took this decision; it is the correct approach for us to take. There is no doubt that the last election was a massive disappointment to our party, but it also provided a huge wakeup call for us also. There seems to be a consensus building in the organisation as to how we should and can move forward, and that consensus is that the place for Sinn Féin is not on the crowded centre ground of Irish politics. I believe that much of the lost ground can be regained in the next two years leading up to the locals and the EU’s, and if we stay firm and clear in what we believe then we can move forward – I know others who would have been more disappointed than me after the election are taking this long-term approach to this setback also.
