Why wouldn't they? The only way he'd be sent to Europe is if McDonald wins, which would show that being an MEP isn't a hindrance to future Dáil success.

He's Larry O'Toole most likely successor ... heading off to europe will mean he'll lose momentum on the ground.
The word 'politics' is derived from the word 'poly', meaning 'many', and the word 'ticks', meaning 'blood sucking parasites

Very articulate and very hunky. Shame about his party.

Only to an extent - that's why I raised the Mary Lou point. It didn't do her much harm, and didn't even have a background in Dublin Cental, as Forde does in DNE.

Also, as Conor hinted at above, surely Forde's Dáil chances are dependent on O'Toole not winning a seat this time (as, if O'Toole does win, he'll more than likely be the candidate next time out as well, failing death or significant boundary changes).

Heard him on the radio today, very articulate and well spoken. Have heard a few young shinners of late from the south that seem very capable of bringing the party on from a protest one to a serious political alternative to things fg ff lab.

Although by the looks of recent events from within the party, with the great one still clinging to his endless power, this talent will most likely go to waste on the shinners and their downwards decline will continue.
