<Mod> I've changed the thread title because the man has only been arrested for drink driving. Until he's admitted to the offence or been convicted, posters should watch their language. </MOD>

Plastered, he should get the same treatment as Labour's Nicky Kelly.
Personally I'm totally opposed to drink driving, but the ambiguity of FF, FG and kid gloves they handle the topic with (for fear of losing the rural vote and publican's money) would make one ask how they or their supporters are in a position to make comment.
And, I am quite sure that a FF, FG or PD TD would have him and his car driven home by the Gardai and no more action (I have first hand evidence of a certain PD politician in Galway being treated in this way)
And I thought SF were supposed to have renounced criminality!![]()
For those who are interested ...
Here is the text of the Sinn Fein response to the incident.
" A Sinn Féin spokesperson this afternoon confirmed that Deputy Martin Ferris was stopped a random breath test checkpoint in Kerry last night. Mr. Ferris co-operated fully with the Gardaí. He does not believe that he was over the limit. He is awaiting the results of the sample taken by Gardaí.
Martin is very mindful of the issue of drink driving particularly given the high level of fatalities on our roads. He would be the first to be critical of anyone who would drive while over the limit. It is totally unacceptable and indefensible behaviour."
1,197 people agree with me.. how many agree with you ?
If Ferris broke the law he deserves to be punished. There seem to be people here who don`t give a damn about drink driving but are just delighted to bash Sinn Féin, same as I`m sure some of Ferris`s supporters will defend him on it even if he is guilty. Any politician, regardless of party, who breaks the law should be punished and this should have the support of all. It shouldn`t be a party political issue.
Afraid it doesn't work that way. People can't talk about low standards in high places and demand action, but when the shoe is on the other foot hide behind soft treatment meted out to others.Originally Posted by Norfolk Enchants
