I would have to agree with you there Pat -posts like the one just given by PineMartin seems to me away off the mark and is perhaps mischivies -and sounds like one coming a political oponent of SF.

The party may not be hovering up votes -yet, but from what I'm hearing in my area, people have come forward in the last few days to join the party after a good public showing through the televised ard fheis. Viva Adams!

'The leadership doesn't permit open debate' is tired and hackneyed. perhaps you could give an example of this?

so do you see any problems with SF in the south and do you see a bright electoral future?

i have voted in the past for the SWM, Labour, Greens but my number one( normally I only gave a number one) vote has been for SF even in the dark days when you could count SF voters by the dozen in Dublin.

Well you know we all have our opinions, mine is an honest and sincere one and I dont support an other party. I really hoped that i would not become a target but that we could have a conversation about issues but maybe that is one of the issues, when some one disagrees then they are the problem.

When you get severe setbacks, like occurred in Dublin then you do have problems. Although the good result of Ferris in Munster seems to get overlooked for some reason. There were also signs of progress in other areas. But Dublin being Dublin it gets the most attention.

As I stated in an earlier post a lot of people who were formerly connected to the party in Dublin left to join Eirigi. It does take time to fill that void. Plus we have had the leaving of sitting councillors Burke, Minihan and Forde, all for different reasons. As all party apparachiks will agree, a good hard working councillor is the foundation for moving forward in terms of political advancement, especially at local level.

I was speaking to people from Dublin over the weekend and a lot of problems are being addressed in terms of allocating personnel and resources. There has also been a recruitment drive in the city in recent months and that has attracted a couple of dozen new people and I believe that initative will be intensified on the back of what is viewed as a very successful Ard Fheis.

    Threats/weaknesses facing Sinn Féin:
    1. No southern leadership since MLMDMEP lost
    2. Not much to boast about in the Northern Ireland Assembly
    3. Demoralised at local and national level
    4. Wave of resignations especially in Dublin
    5. No chance of participating in government on current poll numbers

    Opportunities/strengths:
    1. Mass unemployment among young men
    2. Could yet do better in the Assembly
    3. More unpopular government assistance to banks
    4. Not implicated in any Irish government policies to date
    5. Seem fully committed to peace in Northern Ireland while still being the most republican major party

Resolve these and you will get somewhere.
