True, it would be another type of election for her to lose

I don't think the general joe public gives a ******************** about the presidency. Time we reformed the position? Give it more significance.

Imagine a shinner President, missing internationals and All Ireland finals to avoid having to answer questions about Dear Leader's latest unravelling.

It doesn't matter who SF puts forward as a nominee, they haven't a hope in hell of being elected.

Could someone answer a question for me.

How many Councils do sinn fein hold?

And, are there councils where they could get enough support with one or two independents to reach the required number of 4 councils.

A SF Presidential Nominee May Get The Support Of Monaghan Co. Council Thats It, They are the largest party on the council with 7/20 Seats, Don't know if they are in power on the council though.

Even there it'd require the support of at least 2 councillors from the two main parties.
    (7 SF, 6 FG, 4 FF, 2 Ind)

    I can't see it happening.

Yes and that is about it.

SF have never at any time stated an intention to run for the Presidency and as some sensible posters have pointed out the criteria for nomination is way beyond the party. Simply another one of these threads created for trolling.

Nice 'democracy' we have isn't it? The people are only given a choice of candidates the establishment allow. Why can't anyone just run for the presidency? Good old Dev. He really didn't trust the people at all.

Even today, as OMalley said in the Irish Times yesterday, a new party can't establish because the govt have decreed that they're not allowed private funding and can't get public funding. It's a cracking scam the establishment have going.
