That does not explain the success of Joe Higgins and FF could use the exact same argument.

Joe Higgins got more first preference votes than Mary Lou, that is a cause for concern. When talking to people I know in Dublin they realise the extent of the problem in the city and thankfully are working towards redressing it.

I asked 2 questions aqnd you failed to answer either of them.

    I'll try again

What elected position does she currently hold?

I believe she FAILED to get elected last time, therefore is she not an unelected political failure?

I'll answer as best I can.

She holds no elected post at present.

She failed to retain her Euro seat, though she did manage to secure 48k votes. The government partners both also failed to get elected in the Dublin constituency, failure to a point though they both are in power at the moment. In comparison SF secured 2.5 times the vote of The Greens.
In the context of Mary Lou some politicians are lucky enough not to suffer electoral setbacks at one time or another, however most do.

Her seat was abolished last time. Also, she was National Chair of Sinn Féin and there were important negotiations surrounding P&J in the six counties which obviously meant she was unable to devote as much time to her own constituency campaign.

Who else spotted the subliminal message ten seconds in? Or was it just a case of poor location?

    Her seat was not abolished.

In 2004 sinn fein got a left wing vote and a swing vote off the back off the peace process.

Since then the 'Peace process' has turned into a farce, and sinn fein has left any sembelance of being left wing behind them

The Left wing vote went to Joe Higgins that is why mary lou failed.

Indeed you are right pat, most politians do suffer setbacks.

Infact it is often the case that an aspiring politian has to run on a number of occasions before being elected.

However this is not the case with Mary Lou.

Mary Lou has stood in 4 elections,

2002 to Leinster House, she did not get elected.

2004 to Eu parliament, She did get elected.

2007 to leinster House, she did not get elected.

2009 to EU parliament, she did not get elected.

So what has happend is that mary lou was elected on her second time contesting elections, to a europeann pariliament, which is differnt to a local or general election, as the vote was not for mary lou but a combination of all the dublin sinn fein vote, and as i said a bounce from the peace proccess.

She was then unseated by the people of dublin in favor of a more left wing candidate.

being unseated is different to having a setback.
