Sinn Féin Unveil Important Irish Unity Conference

    http://www.londonirishunityconference.org/resources/london-irish-unity-conference-flyer.pdf

Sinn Féin have unveiled an important conference on Irish Unity to be held in London. Speakers include unionists as well as a very wide range of highly influential interested parties drawn from public life. The conference will set out the case for Irish unity, discuss the issues, and set Irish Unity firmly right at the very top of the public policy agenda once and for all.

This is the latest important initiative in Sinn Féin's Task Force on Irish Unity as headed up by Pearce Doherty and Mary Lou McDonald.

Mary Lou and Pearce, and Sinn Féin more generally, deserve a credit for this initiative.

Making the case for Irish unity in London is pointless. It's the Prods that have to be persuaded (or out-bred)...

Not really as the demographics are changing..... Sinn Fein have to move the Irish unity question forward as they are the only political party genuinely interested in moving it forward.

Why London, you should start in Dublin. This will be a huge Issue coming to 2016 and SF have the torch for this at the moment, I think they shoul have a conference in Dublin, a lot of people view SF as havin the lead on a united Ireland.

Not a bad line up, but no one from the Tories?

3 Labour MPs and a former Labour MP, is that not a bit of an overkill for a party that looks like it is heading into opposition.

However never any harm in discussion and dialogue.

Not being smart, but is there data on that. Among the growing Catholic middle class, would they really want a United Ireland. Does anyone know if we in the Republic would need a referendum to agree to it as well?

We would of course. It would obviously be merely a formality, however.

SF probobly wanted to take it somewhere outside the north where people might be interested.

Unity is a while off yet, we need to get to work with slimming down the public sector up here and paving the way for investment.
People in the south dont see potential, they dont care about how fast Belfast is growing, Titanic quarter etc, highest education standards etc.
They cant see what could happen, they just want to know that they wont have to pay 10 euro a week more in tax to pay for it in the short term.
We wont get any major investment until we can get out of the UK and control our own policies , and the south will oppose unification until we get major investment.
    Its a viscious circle.
I have heard from many American economists on radio and tv interviews that the north has huge potential, especially in the I.T sector.
One claimed that Belfast could be a new 'Silicon Valley'.
The north needs out of the UK, it holds the most intelligent students in the UK and Ireland yet the taxation fiscal policies etc. are a brick wall blocking investment.
