Could this thread not be split into (i) a discussion on Gerry Adams and (ii) a discussion on moderating policy from all the outraged Shinners trying to avoid the issue?
I myself can't remember any one of them on the FF threads saying 'can we keep all the Bertie/FF/corruption stuff to just one thread'.
As for the actual topic, I think TipperaryMan got it right, and I hope Gerry stays on.
Over on Slugger someone has posted that there is another interview with Aine Tyrell in tomorrow's Sunday Tribune and that Gerry will not like it. Sounds like it is going to be dynamite, why else would Aine come back to the paper with more to say or has Gerry's response upset her even more than before. We'll know in the morning. Anyone know the address of the site which displays tomorrow's front pages early on? K2 had on p.ie last week.
How much more can Gerry take? Give him one thing, he's a thick skinned old beardy man.

Consequently, I did not tell anyone in Sinn Féin of the allegations. There has been no cover up by Sinn Féin. The party did not know of the allegations against Liam Adams. Therefore it could not take any action even within the party’s rules and regulations. It did nothing wrong.

Northern Editor Suzanne Breen interviews Gerry Adams’ niece, Aine Tyrell. Tyrell claims that Adams is lying when he says he couldn’t tell party colleagues that his brother was a suspected paedophile because she demanded anonymity from Adams.
Breen writes:
In an exclusive interview with the Sunday Tribune, Tyrell was scathing of both the Sinn Féin president and the PSNI over their handling of the case.
She said: “I didn’t know Liam was in Sinn Féin but had Gerry bothered to tell me, I would have waived my anonymity without hesistation. I’d have accompanied Gerry to meet his colleagues in Sinn Féin, to talk to the ard chomhairle about what Liam had done so they could expel him from the party. But Gerry never gave that option.”
But does Adams explicitly say that Áine demanded anonymity? The comments on his blog are substantially more nuanced than that. He is speaking about receiving advice from a professional. And of course we already know his defence in relation to the Sinn Féin membership allegations: he says was unaware of Liam's involvement in Belfast Sinn Féin - from memory Áine reopened the issue only after Liam had returned to Belfast (UTV Insight). And if she was willing to waive her anonymity at that stage she, or one of her relatives, could have approached Clonard Youth Club - but they didn't!
It seems that there is wishful thinking going on on both sides - and it's probably not helped by the women in the middle.
I suppose I'll have to wait to read the rest of the allegations on-line tomorrow. Past experience tells me that they'll be presented in 'sensational' fashion.

Gerry has never yet answered the simple question as to who was the 'professional' who gave him that advice any more than he answered questions on who he spoke to at Clonard.
Gerry is becoming a mill stone around the neck of SInn Fein.
If you take what the Tribune has to say at face value it will undoubtably be damning.
Hindsight is of course, a wonderful thing. But did Gerry know that Áine was willing to waive her right to anonymity? He wouldn't have - unless she explicitly told him. And if she was so willing to waive her anonynimity why didn't she, or one of her relatives, approach Clonard Youth Club to tell the authorities that there was a child molester in their employ. I am willing to bet that the question was not asked.
Last week the Tribune shamefully identified a victim of sexual abuse against her expressly stated wishes. In a statement issued the following day the victim stated that she felt that she had been 'manipulated' by the Tribune. In my previous post I identified significant gaps between the claims that the Tribune was attributing to Adams and what Adams had actually said (on his blog) - and that was having seen a one paragraph synoposis!
Anyway, I guess we'll have to wait until tomorrow for the rest of the story to appear online.

'While that was their wish', isn't the implication there that he was claiming she wanted anonymity? Isn't Gerry being disingenuous?
Are you really blaming the victim for not going to Clonard rather than expecting one of the most powerful men in Belfast to go? You're really stretching it here, picador.
If this was 1980 something and Gerry was talking about long wars and how Hoxha's Albania was a socialist paradise you can bet certain people trying to minimize this now would making all they could out of it....
